If you are new to Kali linux I suggest reading "Kali Linux Reavealed" by Offensive Security. This is a good start at getting comfortable with Kali Linux and is Free to read.

Next is nmap. nmap is a tool used for scanning networks and gathering information. A good understanding of how to use nmap will be incredibly helpful. You can read the book free online or purchase a copy from amazon.
